Tools Needed: A Good Leash, Possible Squirt Bottle, Flat Collar, Possible Clicker and Treats and a Training Collar

Advanced Obedience is for the dog-human team that is ready for a more challenging training experience. The class is formed around the owner’s desired behaviors. “Out on the Town” is part of the Advanced Obedience class as well as a class of its own. In this event, we will be taking our dogs to downtown San Luis Obispo to practice behaviors in real-world settings such as cafes, elevators, and large groups of people. Requirements for this class are completion of a Basic Obedience class or be signed off by a Happy Tails Kennel Trainer. Due to the possible interaction with the public, the dogs in this class must be reliable.

Trick Classes

Examples of Possible Behaviors Introduced:

Hold it, Shake/Wave, Get it, Jump, Circle, Roll Over. Owners can also choose behaviors that they want to learn.

Tools Needed: Clicker and Treats, Leash and Collar

Our Trick Class is a great way to add a few challenges to your routine. We will give your dog as many opportunities as possible to obtain rewards. Therefore, this class will move quickly. Tricks are a great way for dogs to help you out around the house or show off to friends. Dogs must have completed Basic Obedience or be signed off by a Happy Tails Kennel Trainer to participate in a Trick Class.

Seminars

It’s not them, it’s you.

So Spot has been through obedience classes, puppy classes, personal trainers (not at Happy Tails Kennel of course!) but for some reason he won’t listen! Do you feel like you constantly have to repeat yourself when giving a command? Are you embarrassed when friends and family come over and they are greeted by a jumping, counter surfing, barking, chewing, nipping, and all around crazy hound? Then this owners-only class is for you. Here we will discuss problem solving techniques, proper communication, and the importance of timing and consistency.

Beginning Clicker Training

This class is for owners that want to use clicker training for Basic Obedience or would just like to know how the “Clicker Training Game” works. The seminar will include: Introducing the clicker to your dog, when and how to reinforce, and what the clicker actually represents.
